Standard Sensor Interfaces: Moulded Connections and Selection

Standard-interface design for existing harnesses and a secure, sealed connection

When integrating or replacing a pressure sensor, keeping the existing plug and harness matters alongside secure internal connections. Rodee’s standard-interface design moulds the metal housing, connection pins and insulating base together, addressing internal retention, insulation and sealing while accommodating different interface forms.

Secure the interface to the housing to resist movement and separation

Correct mating alone does not establish a reliable internal connection. The insulating base needs to remain in position during assembly and plug handling, while the pins must be retained and separated from the metal housing. The moulded base surrounds the housing end and the middle of the pins; bent pins connect the internal circuit to the external socket.

Internal housing threads, an annular retaining step and external V-shaped grooves strengthen the metal-to-plastic joint and resist rotation or separation of the insulating base. These features contribute directly to retention and sealing, addressing ageing risks at joints relying on sealing rings or adhesive.

A shared joining approach for several interface forms

The design covers Hirschmann, Metri-P, AMP, Deutsch and M12 interface forms. Housings and pins are manufactured separately before moulding joins them for the interface construction, addressing internal assembly alongside external plug compatibility. Available options depend on the selected product.

To retain an existing harness, start with the full plug part number, pin diagram and mounting dimensions. Keying and locking determine correct mating; supply, pin functions and output determine compatibility with the controller. Matching both sets of requirements establishes whether the existing connection can be retained.

Confirm sealing with the complete connection configuration

The moulded joint addresses rigidity, insulation and sealing and supports IP68 protection. Actual protection depends on the model, mating plug, seals and installation; the cable entry must also be assembled according to its instructions.

The electrical interface and the media-side process connection are separate joints. For a replacement, provide the original model or nameplate, pressure range, medium, process thread, supply and output, together with plug photographs or drawings. This allows measurement and installation requirements to be checked together.

Integration questions

Can a sensor with the same interface name replace the original?

Check connector coding, pin count, pin assignment, supply and output, as well as the process connection and mounting dimensions. The original model, plug part number and wiring diagram help establish whether the harness can be retained.
